Take a photo, make a hologram.
Pictures of your family, friends, pets, even your favorite memes can live as 3D holograms on your desk, thanks to our cloud-based service that generates high-quality depth maps from 2D images.
Simple as 1, 2, 3D.

Select an image for 3D conversion.
We recommend using images with clear 3D geometry, such as real-world photos or artwork with a range of dark and light values. Portraits of people and animals work particularly well. Learn more in this tutorial.

Convert the image in our 2D-to-3D tool.
Drop your image into the file picker above, or click the box to select a file. When ready, click the Convert button to begin generating your depth map. Conversions can take up to 2 minutes.

Import depth map into the Looking Glass.
Open HoloPlay Studio and import your side-by-side depth photo to view the image as a three-dimensional hologram in your Looking Glass. Learn more in this HoloPlay Studio tutorial.

Frequently asked questions
The cloud-based technology is provided in partnership with Owl3D, an AI platform that specializes in converting 2D content into 3D content. A high-quality depth map is deduced from the uploaded 2D image, which is then used to generate the multiple perspectives required to display a three-dimensional hologram in the Looking Glass.
When selecting images to convert into holograms, a clear picture with 3D geometric cues is usually enough to generate a convincing depth map for holographic display.
We suggest that you avoid converting visually flat images, like a photo of the sky or simple drawings, as the output is more likely to fail at capturing plausible depth.
We also suggest that you use images with a resolution higher than 360 x 360 pixels, and up to 5120 x 2880 pixels.
All Kickstarter backers automatically receive 20 conversions for free. These will be sent to backers alongside their Looking Glass Portrait units.
Additional conversions can be purchased as credits in our online store, priced at $20 USD for 100 conversions.
The resulting depth map belongs to you. Looking Glass Factory only temporarily hosts the image for you for 24 hours. The same applies to photos you upload with the 2D-to-3D tool: you own them, and not Looking Glass Factory.
When you convert a 2D image into a depth map, you can find the result in the "Conversion History" tab above the 2D-to-3D tool's interface. We only host your images for 24 hours after conversion, so please remember to download your depth map once it has been generated!
See you in the future.
