September 2021 Updates & New Releases
HoloPlay Studio 1.1.0
With the HoloPlay Studio 1.1.0 update, we're releasing a number of new features that address the question that many of you have had in the last few months -- well, how do I share my holograms?
🤝 Share your holograms with .hop
Say hello to .hop (hologram object package) -- a new hologram format designed to make it intuitive for you to export and share holograms you make in HoloPlay Studio with your friends, family or anyone in the Looking Glass community on our Discord.
A .hop file will encode all the specific data you input into HoloPlay Studio, including framing, zoom levels, depthiness and focus. In addition to all that .hop files are also substantially smaller than sharing the holograms in a .zip folder or just sending the raw photos and videos (where important metadata might get lost!) over the interwebz.
📂 Drag, drop and multiple file import
HoloPlay Studio now has support for drag and drop. Simply select your files (yes, MULTIPLE files at once is now possible!) from file explorer or finder, drag them into HoloPlay Studio and choose the type of hologram you're loading in 🤯 Pro tip: because HoloPlay Studio was built by smart cookies, it will automatically recognize the .hop file format and load these automatically.
📷 Reverse directionality for light field photo sets
Easily swap the directionality of light fields directly in HoloPlay Studio without the need for renaming / reimporting.
🐞 Improved stability, usability and minor bug fixes
Keyboard controls now work for play/pause and for navigating the HoloPlay Studio interface.
Looking Glass Blender Add-on 2.0
Say hello to a fresh new coat of paint for our Blender plugin! We've partnered with community member Christian Stolze, author of the open source Alice/LG plugin to give you the best Blender experience out there.
🧹 Clean Code, Best Code
We've made major internal code optimizations to make the add-on more future proof towards changes, new devices, etc. We've also added a detailed log-file mechanism to make bug reporting easier.
🕰️ Recover your render time!
We've optimized the "Continue Incomplete Render Jobs" to work better and more reliably resume render jobs if Blender is closed or crashes during a quilt rendering, no more need to start from 0!
We've also removed the separate light field viewport window and Alice/LG now relies on HoloPlay Service for displaying content on devices (no manual window movement required anymore).
🪡 Custom quilt resolutions!
Custom quilt presets can now be added in the
presets folder of the add-on (future versions will implement a user interface for this).
We've also added a "cancel" button for quilt (animation) rendering.
👓 MultiView render option
In addition to our own camera system, we've also added an additional option in the preferences to use Blender's own multi-view camera system during quilt rendering.
